WHO IS W.E.DEMING?

W.Edwards Deming was educated in engineering and physics at the University of Wyoming and yale university. He worked for western electric and was influenced by Walter A Shewhart. He firmly believed that the responsibility for quality rests with management and most of the quality improvement opportunities require management action.

HOW DEMING’S 14 PHILOSOPHY FRAMEWORK HELPS QUALITY AND MANAGEMENT

Deming’s 14 philosophy framework is an important framework for implementing quality and these philosophies are summarized here below. This sections has some important philosophies; quality systems and standards; the link between quality and productivity and quality and cost economic and legal implications of quality.

  1. Create the Aim and purpose of the organization.
  2. Learn and adopt a new philosophy.
  3. Understand the purpose of inspection and do not rely on mass inspection to control the quality.
  4. Stop price based association, do not award business to suppliers based on price alone, consider mainly quality.
  5. Focus on continuous improvement.
  6. Institue training, practice modern training methods and invest in training for employee development.
  7. Teach and Improve leadership. Practice modern supervision methods.
  8. Drive our fear, create trust, and create a culture for innovation.
  9. Break down the barriers between functional areas of the businesses. Optimize the efforts of teams.
  10. Eliminate exhortations for the workforce. Goals should be set that are achievable and are committed to the long-term success of the organization.
  11. Eliminate numerical quotas and work standards.
  12. Remove barriers that discourage the workforce from doing their jobs.
  13. Encourage education and self-improvement for everyone. A long-term commitment to continuously train and educate people must be made by management.
  14. Create a structure to accomplish the transformation. The top management has to create a corporate structure to implement the philosophy.
